Let’s get started. 🌸
💡 What is PCOS?
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a hormonal disorder that affects people with ovaries, especially during their reproductive years. It’s actually very common — about 1 in 5 women in India may experience it.
It is characterized by hormonal imbalances, irregular menstrual cycles, and often, cysts on the ovaries (though not always). PCOS can affect fertility and is linked to long-term health issues like type 2 diabetes and heart disease.
Common symptoms of PCOS include:
- Irregular or missed periods
- Excess facial/body hair (hirsutism)
- Acne, especially along the jawline
- Weight gain or difficulty losing weight
- Ovarian cysts
- Hair thinning or scalp hair loss
- Mood swings or anxiety
🥚 What is PCOD? Is it the same as PCOS?
PCOD stands for Polycystic Ovarian Disease. It is a milder form of PCOS, where the ovaries release immature or partially mature eggs that can develop into cysts.
It usually doesn’t severely affect fertility or hormone levels unless left unmanaged. PCOD is especially common in young women and is more manageable with simple lifestyle changes.
💭 PCOD vs PCOS: What’s the Difference?
| Feature | PCOD | PCOS |
|---|---|---|
| Frequency | More common | Less common |
| Hormonal imbalance | Mild or none | Significant |
| Fertility | Usually unaffected | Can affect ovulation & fertility |
| Metabolic issues | Rare | Often present (e.g., insulin resistance) |
| Cyst formation | Occasional | Persistent (10+ cysts/ovary) |
Summary: PCOD is more about lifestyle imbalance, while PCOS is a more serious hormonal disorder that needs ongoing care.
🧠 What Causes PCOS/PCOD?
There’s no single cause, but these are the major contributors:
- 🧬 Genetics (family history)
- 🍭 High insulin levels (insulin resistance)
- 🔥 Inflammation
- 🍔 Poor diet and lack of physical activity
- 😴 Stress and poor sleep
🌿 Is There a Cure?
There’s no permanent cure (yet), but the good news is — it can absolutely be managed through:
- ✅ A balanced, anti-inflammatory diet
- 🏃♀️ Regular movement (yoga, walking, strength training)
- 🌿 Natural supplements (like inositol, spearmint tea, etc.)
- 🧴 Skincare tailored for hormonal acne
- 🛏️ Better sleep and stress management
The goal is not just treating symptoms — but healing from the inside out. And that’s what this blog is all about.
✨ My Why
I started this blog because I, too, live with PCOS. I’ve battled sudden acne, scalp bumps, bloating, mood swings, and weight struggles. After months of confusion, trial-and-error, and finally learning to listen to my body — I realized how many of us are silently going through the same thing.
